DID YOU KNOW:  Public K-12 schools educated a total of 5.1 million ELL students in the 2005-2006 school year.  Sixty eight percent of those students were Hispanic.  Florida has the highest reported number of certified teachers in Title III language instruction programs of any state.  At 48,327 there are more than twice as many teachers as the next highest reporting state, Texas, which had a total of 24,000.  Texas had more than twice as many ELL students as Florida.  California did not report its number of teachers.  (source:  Education Week, January 8, 2009)
